Genre: Dramatic-comedic-feel-good movie that tells it like it is.

So, I read the novel that this movie is based on, by Kathryn Stockett back in May, along with the rest of my Literature class as our final book of the year. I normally skive off reading books for school, but this one I loved. Not only is main-character Skeeter hilarious and modern and quirky, the entire movie holds a strain of a deep-rooted truth that makes your heart ache. The movie can make you laugh and cry in equal parts, and is a story of daring and bravery, in a time where women weren't allowed to be either of those. Notable performances in this movie go to funny girl Emma Stone who plays Skeeter, and is laugh out loud funny, mixed with wit and sarcasm, and to Bryce Dallas Howard, who plays Skeeter's frenemy, Hilly Holbrook, a girl that you really just want to punch in the face, and who you enjoy seeing be destroyed. I highly reccomend this movie to everyone older than thirteen, probably female although I think some males would enjoy it as well. I do advise that you read the book first though.

Genre: Action-movie-that kind-of confuses you-but is good.

So, I Redboxed this the other day because I was looking for a movie that I would enjoy, my mom would like, and that wouldn't make my dad fall asleep. Everytime I watch a movie with my father past seven at night, he falls asleep! Well Hanna was totally the perfect remedy for that. It was so gripping that my dad stayed awake and watched the entire thing, which to me is the true measure of a good movie. With all-stars Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana (who is definitely an older man crush of mine), the acting is superb (and I'm hard to impress). Plus the star of the movie Saoirse Ronan, who is only a year younger than myself, and has an impressive list of credits, both pre- and post- Hanna. The movie is the kind that has you holding on to your seat, just hoping everything will work out. The ending was not disappointing, and I seriously reccomend this movie for something that both teens and parents will get something out of and enjoy while doing it.

Genre: Comedic Feel-Good Chick-Flick That Some Guys May Enjoy

So, I picked up this movie looking for a comedy to laugh obnoxiously at, because I'm home watching a movie by myself. Yea, this wasn't the right movie. But, don't get me wrong, I loved it! The plot was kind of shaky at points but it was a pretty feel good movie. Just more in a your life sucks and mine doesn't kind of way... But there was a hot Irish cop (this movie will be recommended to Becca for that alone), this one chick kind of goes psycho (which was pretty freaking hilarious), and you end up feeling like even if your life sucks right now, it will get better. My top pick for best female character in the movie is the groom's sister Megan played by Melissa McCarthy, and the best male would definitely have to be the gorgeous Irish cop Nathan Rhodes played by Chris O'Dowd.

The Purpose of This Blog

So, I love to watch movies. But even more, I love to critique them! I love to make fun of bad actors, rant about crappy scripts, and stare open-mouthed at awesome special effects. That is why I have created this blog for my fellow movie-goers. This is probably not going to be about current movies that are in theatres, because 1. You have already read reviews for those and 2. No one gives a flying tuck about them anyway. My movies you may have seen, may have to search for, or may be able to get at Blockbuster or Redbox. Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy my interpretation of the show.
